Method: Review R.E.A.L. VR and confirm the game appears on the creator's current setup page before installing.

Far Cry 6 can be played in PC VR through R.E.A.L. VR, and a January 2026 framework release fixed important co-op behavior including the multiplayer map appearing black.

That makes this a much better-supported co-op VR target than older articles may suggest.

Before you install

Treat R.E.A.L. VR compatibility as version-specific. Before changing the game folder:

  • Confirm the title is still listed on the creator's current setup page and whether it is in the public or early-access build.
  • Compare your installed game version with the latest tested version; a newer game patch is not automatically safer for an injected VR framework.
  • Run the game successfully in flat mode, then close it before copying framework files.
  • Temporarily remove competing graphics injectors, ReShade builds, overlays, or old VR hooks while establishing a clean baseline.
  • Back up any existing framework and configuration files so the installation is easy to reverse.

Unless the exact game entry says otherwise, expect the original gamepad controls rather than tracked-hand motion controls.

Current 2026 multiplayer status

Luke Ross reported that the 2026 R.E.A.L. release fixed major issues affecting Far Cry 5, New Dawn, and Far Cry 6 co-op.

For Far Cry 6 specifically, he noted that the multiplayer map should work properly instead of appearing completely black.

What you need

You need:

  • Far Cry 6 on PC.
  • Current R.E.A.L. VR framework.
  • PCVR headset.
  • standard Far Cry input method.
  • enough GPU performance for open-world VR.

No full motion controls

R.E.A.L. VR preserves the base game's control model.

That means weapons are still controlled through the original input system rather than being completely detached and tracked like a native VR shooter.

Step 1: Test flat gameplay and co-op

Run Far Cry 6 normally.

If co-op is important:

  • join your friend.
  • test fast travel.
  • open the map.
  • confirm Ubisoft connectivity.

Step 2: Install R.E.A.L. VR

Use the current framework guide.

R.E.A.L. VR now has public and early-access tracks, so use the version that currently supports Far Cry 6.

Step 3: Start in solo VR

Before co-op, verify the basic VR conversion by yourself.

Step 4: Test multiplayer

Once solo play is stable, join co-op.

The 2026 build should avoid the previous head-lock issues around loading and fast travel.

Ubisoft overlay caveat

The framework author still warns that some Ubisoft overlay elements can be awkward in VR.

If chat becomes too large or head-locked, switch temporarily to a flat virtual-screen view.

Performance

Far Cry 6 can be demanding at high VR resolution.

Reduce:

  • high shadows.
  • HD texture pressure if VRAM-limited.
  • volumetrics.
  • high resolution scale.

Vehicles

Driving and flying can be intense.

Use a stable frame rate and shorter initial sessions.

Quest 3

Quest 3 works through PCVR.

Wireless quality matters during high-speed vehicle movement because compression artifacts become more visible.

Common problems

Co-op map is black

Use a current framework build; this was explicitly addressed in 2026.

View locks after fast travel

Update the framework.

Ubisoft overlay is unusable

Use the 2D virtual-screen fallback when needed.

No tracked gun aiming

Expected. R.E.A.L. VR is not a full motion-control conversion.
