About PCVR Central
Flatscreen-to-VR modding is having a golden age, and the information about it is scattered across GitHub repos, Discord threads, spreadsheets, Patreon posts, and forum replies from three years ago. Ask a simple question, can I play this game in VR?, and the honest answer is usually "maybe, somewhere, if you know where to look".
PCVR Central is the information layer: one canonical page per game, every known VR mod listed with structured, comparable facts, and a visible date on every compatibility claim. It is curated by hand, which is slower than scraping and considerably more useful.
Principles
- Creator first
- Every download button points at the creator's own page. We never rehost files, never mirror paywalled content, and never insert ourselves between a modder and the people who support them.
- Link, don't rehost
- This site is an index, not a file host. If you found a mod here, the creator got the visit and the credit.
- Honest data
- Unknown is shown as Unknown. Every compatibility claim carries the date it was verified and the game version it was tested against, because a claim without a date is just a rumour.
- Method-agnostic, not category-blind
- UEVR, UUVR, REFramework, native conversions, R.E.A.L., VorpX, and Depth3D can all help put a flat game in a headset, so they can all be documented here. Purpose-built VR conversions are shown by default; generic drivers and stereoscopic screens are clearly separated and opt-in.
- Beginner-friendly, expert-usable
- The filters go deep enough for someone comparing runtimes, and the guides start from "what is a VR mod".
How the data works
Every entry is a plain text file in a public repository. There is no hidden database and no editorial black box. You can read the exact data behind any page, see when it changed, and open a correction against it.
Quality labels are editorial judgements made by a curator, not scores computed from data we don't have. We don't publish download counts, because we don't host the files and have no way to see them. Where we show popularity, it counts visits from this site to a creator's page and nothing else, and we label it as exactly that.
Ratings and accounts
Star ratings come from people who signed in and said they played something. They are deliberately kept separate from the quality label: the label is our verified assessment of whether a method works, a rating is somebody's experience of it. The two disagree often, and that is useful rather than a problem, so we show both instead of blending them into one number.
A rating is never treated as a compatibility claim. Only a curator verifying an entry moves its label or its last-verified date.
Accounts exist for exactly one reason, which is leaving a review. You sign in through Google, GitHub or Discord, so we never see a password. We store a username, an avatar URL if your provider gave us one, and what you write. Nothing on this site tracks you between pages, and the catalog is fully readable without an account.
